Alan is a certified NLP Practitioner, Instructor and Time Line™ Therapy Practitioner effectively combining these with his expertise as a Career Practitioner.
Invercargill-based, other than for periods of study and travel, Alan has lived in Southland all his life. He has four adult children.
Initially working as a primary school teacher, Alan has been an employment officer, probation officer and tutor / counsellor in areas including communication skills, personal development and helping skills. He was a faculty manager at the local technical institute for 10 years, before commencing his own successful business as a career consultant and vocational assessor. Adding life coaching to these career services comes as a natural move.
With a lifelong passion for personal development and significant experience in helping roles, a chance meeting with Dr. Amanda Mortimer in 2011 led Alan to complete NLP Practitioner, Time Line Therapy™ and NLP Instructor courses to gain certification as a licensed coach with Your Life Live It.
Alan holds teaching qualifications, together with a BA in Psychology and an Executive MBA (with distinction). He gained a Certificate in Gestalt Therapy early in his career, subsequently becoming interested in Neuro-Linguistic Programming and completing a number of NLP training courses. He is a professional member of the Career Development Association of New Zealand.
His early fascination with NLP and its proven ability to produce rapid change and real results across a wide range of human problems, coupled with meeting Amanda, rekindled Alan’s passion to work with people to achieve change. He now enjoys assisting people with broader life as well as career issues and is excited to be part of the Your Life Live It team.
Alan’s areas of expertise include teaching, tutoring, coaching, counselling, career development, programme development, management and small business management. He has worked with a broad spectrum of both people and problems, including ordinary people just wanting change, troubled youth, children, students and people with disabilities / injuries.
Alan is known for his sincere, caring and warm approach to dealing with all people. He is a great listener with the ability to help people to find real solutions – usually from their own inner resources.
Alan’s ongoing mission is to assist people move easily and quickly from having what they don’t want to getting what they do want – by taking control of their own lives.

Who would have believed it – certainly not me! A few short sessions with Alan have simply dissolved negative and lacking aspects of myself (self criticism, self doubt, self esteem and self confidence) - leaving a far stronger and balanced me. I was so impressed with Alan’s quality of communication, clarity of thought and command of the NLP process that I not only recommend him to you for life and career coaching, but I enrolled in the next course myself!
Alan McIntyre has been a great help to me in sorting out what I want in my life. Using NLP strategies to ensure that the changes I make in my life are congruent with how I am thinking. I thank him for being patient and for really listening to what I was saying and then putting my thoughts in order. I always feel better within myself after having talked to Alan.

Alan reshaped my CV’s. He managed to condense an untidy pile of qualifications into a very concise document, making me look an even smarter individual. Without his enthusiasm and talent those papers would still be in the mess they were before I stepped into his office. Thanking you Alan.
